PRESS RELEASE
OIL CLEANING BIO-PRODUCTS LTD. LAUNCHES "HEG" RANGE OF BACTERIAL
CLEANSERS, DEGREASERS AND ABSORBENTS IN FORECOURT AND MOTOR WORKSHOP
MARKETS
23rd. February 1996
Oil Cleaning Bio-Products Ltd. is launching in forecourt and garage
markets the innovative "Heg" range of highly efficient bacterial oil
cleansers, degreasers, absorbents and bioremediation agents. In different
ways, each of the products will greatly enhance the safe and environmentally
friendly operation of service stations and garage workshops. They
are all non-toxic, non-corrosive and biodegradable. In particular,
the products can deal effectively and simply with spills and stains
of petrol, diesel and motor oils on concrete, on pumps and fuel delivery
points, in drains, and on workshop floors. They also cut VOCs and
act as fire retardants. One of the liquids, Hegol, will lift deep-seated
oil from concrete. The other liquid, Hegsolv, can be used in parts
washers and contains a rust inhibitor.
The bacteria, which are all naturally occurring and commonly found
in the environment, have been specially selected for their ability
to break down a wide variety of hydrocarbon molecules. Captured oily
wastes and spills can therefore be decomposed on site if this is preferred.
The absorbents will not only provide an immediate non-slip surface,
but will also protect nearby water courses and not allow absorbed
oil to leach out in the rain - unlike conventional abrasive adsorbents
such as sand or "cat litter". The absorbent non-abrasive socks and
pillows can be floated in interceptor systems to reduce the hydrocarbon
loading and biodegrade it on the spot.
Commenting on the scope for the "Heg" products in service stations
and garages, OCBP's Managing Director Richard Genochio said: "Service
station operators and garage proprietors want to provide a clean,
safe and pollution-free environment for their customers and for their
workforce. They also need to be able to capture and, if necessary
destroy, contamination, rather than merely pass it on to the drainage
system, to the atmosphere or to a specialist waste contractor. The
regulatory requirements which operators face have become steadily
more demanding. The "Heg" products will enable service stations and
garages to cope with current problems and achieve tomorrow's standards
today - simply and affordably."
On the commercial aspects of the "Heg" range, Mr. Genochio added:
"The "Heg" products have obvious appeal to individual as well as to
industrial and commercial users. Accordingly, we are also developing
a suitably packaged range for the consumer market which may be offered
through forecourt retailers and motor factors. We are therefore talking
to organisations which may wish to act as outlets or as our distributors
in the consumer or commercial markets."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
1) The "Heg" range of products consists of: Hegol (oil degrading bacteria
added to a biodegradable surfactant, used for the removal of oil from
concrete, vehicle washing and general cleaning); Hegsolv (oil degrading
bacteria added to a biodegradable, non-corrosive solvent substitute
with rust inhibitor, used for degreasing, heavy duty cleansing and
as a parts washing liquid); Hegrem (oil-trapping absorbent made from
biodegradable plant fibres with oil degrading bacteria, used in sock
form to float in interceptors and remove and destroy hydrocarbons);
Hegfloor (similar to Hegrem and therefore non-abrasive, but fewer
bacteria and almost dust-free; used loose as a premium heavy duty
absorbent for oil and fuel spilled on concrete); and Hegsorb (biodegradable
and specially treated plant fibres which absorb and trap oil spilled
in water; also used, in pillow form, to remove oil from interceptors).
