PRESS RELEASE
STEVENAGE OIL COMPANY's SUCCESS WITH OCBP's CLEANSERS & ABSORBENTS
PROMPTS DECISION TO TAKE ON DISTRIBUTORSHIP
January 1998
When Stevenage Oil Company turned to Oil Cleaning Bio-Products Ltd.
and their "Heg" range of biodegradable cleansers and absorbents, it
could not foresee how simple and effective they would be for site
maintenance, vehicle and equipment cleansing and oil spills. So well
have results outstripped expectations that SOC forsees that these
products will be widely adopted in the fuel oil and other industries
and is preparing to supply them to customers as a distributor for
OCBP.
Describing the difference OCBP's "Heg" products had made to his
company, SOC's Managing Director, John Cooper said: "We have always
run a "Clean Site" policy. In this we face the same problems as any
other fuel oil company - vehicle washing, oily grime on tanks, pipes
and gantries, small spills on concrete, oil in the separator and cleaning
of re-usable drums. More rarely, there are overspills and leakages
from customers' tanks, and leakage from off-set fill points. We had
been using a variety of granular or polypropylene absorbents and harsh
detergents, caustics and solvents. Some just didn't work. Some did
the job but were very unpleasant to use and created a disposal problem.
The "Heg" products, by contrast, are biodegradable, safe to use, and
highly cost effective."
On his particular uses of the "Heg" products, Mr. Cooper explained:
"We use the liquid Hegol for many tasks. These include cleaning the
workshop floor and oiled concrete in the yard, and pressure-washing
the gantries, tanks, pipework and the re-usable 45 gallon oil drums.
Hegol also removes traffic film from our road tankers, with no danger
of damage to livery and paintwork. Fortunately, because we are very
careful, we don't have to use Hegfloor very often! On the rare occasions
when we need it outside the depot, it is a superb absorbent for accidental
oil spills on concrete, roads, drives and around customers' fuel tanks.
Also, as a precaution, we float absorbent "Hegsocks" in our oil/water
separator. That way, any surge of oil can be immediately absorbed,
retained and removed."
Commenting on SOC's plan to distribute the products, Mr. Cooper
said: "We are very positive about this. The "Heg" products are particularly
suitable for engineering, turning and sheet metal workshops, truck
and auto repair shops and petrol stations. We are now refurbishing
our warehouse so we can stock and supply from here. I think our customers
will welcome the fact that we shall be able to offer not only fuel,
but also progressive solutions to their contamination problems."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
1) Stevenage Oil Company is an independent family business which started
in London in 1963, supplying the market for domestic paraffin. The
business grew rapidly under John Cooper's direction and branched out
into the full range of industrial, domestic and agricultural fuels.
In 1967 SOC relocated to North Hertfordshire, setting up its depot
in Hitchin from which it now runs four road tankers, serving customers
mainly in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

3) The "Heg" products include: Hegol (biodegradable
surfactants with natural oil-degrading bacteria, used for vehicle
washing, oily machinery, oil-stained workshop floors and other hard
or metallic surfaces); Hegfloor (low dust, non-abrasive non-leaching
biodegradable plant-based absorbent, used for oil spills on floors,
roads or concrete as a superior but economical alternative to granular
clay, polypropylene, sawdust and sand); Hegsolv (quick-splitting biodegradable
surfactants with rust inhibitor and natural oil-degrading bacteria,
used for heavy duty cleansing, parts washing and degreasing); Hegrem
(oil-encapsulating absorbent made from biodegradable plant fibres
with oil-degrading bacteria, used for bioremediation of contaminated
land and of oily sludges and wastes); Hegsorb (biodegradable hydrophobic/oleophilic
absorbent used for spills on water and as a filter to separate oil
and water in oily effluents); Hegacid (for the absorption, stabilisation
and part-neutralisation of spilled concentrated acids); Hegseal (pliable
clay with polymer for the sealing of leaking or punctured drums, tanks
and pipework - easy for drivers to carry in road tankers for temporary
emergency use to stop leakage from tanks etc. on customers' premises);
Hegtrap (biodegradable surfactants with oil-degrading bacteria for
the digestion of grease, fats and human waste in grease traps and
drains); and a variety of biodegradable absorbent booms, pads, socks
and pillows. These, together with Hegfloor, will be of particular
interest to tanker owners and drivers as superior components of the
on-board emergency spill kits which they are legally obliged to carry.
Subject to minimum requirements, SOC will be able to supply kits made
up to meet individual preferences. (Just 4 lbs. of Hegfloor will absorb
and retain up to almost 8 litres of spilled oil, depending on type).
4) Oil Cleaning Bio-Products Ltd. is the sole and
world-wide supplier of the "Heg" range of products. For further information
