PRESS RELEASE
GDM ENGINEERING USES "HEG" PRODUCTS ON OILY WASTE, SPILLS & STAINED
CONCRETE IN "CLEAN WORKS, BETTER BUSINESS" CAMPAIGN
May 1996
Precision engineering and turned parts company GDM Engineering Ltd.,
as part of its "Clean Works" campaign to cut on-site pollution and
to improve safety and working conditions, has achieved outstanding
results by the use of Oil Cleaning Bio-Products Ltd's new bacterial
cleansers "Hegol" and "Hegsolv" and the absorbent "Hegfloor".
Geoff Hummersone, Managing Director of GDM, commenting on his campaign,
said: "Open machines are bound to produce some splashes and stains
of cutting fluids and of vegetable and mineral oils. We have been
looking at ways of controlling and treating such workshop effluents,
spills and wastes. Environmental responsibilities, the safety and
health of our workers, our own quality standards and the demands of
customers all gave us the same message. We and OCBP have summed this
up as "Clean Works, Better Business". Customers increasingly take
into account a supplier's approach to pollution, the environment and
health and safety when placing contracts. The Heg products have enabled
us to get clean and stay clean, and clean means safe, non-slip, hygienic
- and good for business."
In a comment on the application of the products, he added: "The
Hegol and Hegsolv concentrates surprised me because they are more
cost-effective after dilution than conventional cleaners we had been
using - but, unlike them, quite harmless to the skin. Hegfloor, unlike
the kitty litter granules we had been using to soak up spills, completely
absorbs, doesn't impact into the concrete as a hard gritty layer,
and can be easily swept up and composted on site."
Richard Genochio, Managing Director of Oil Cleaning Bio-Products
Ltd. - the exclusive supplier of the "Heg" products - commenting on
GDM's campaign, said: "OCBP is pleased to have helped GDM in translating
into action their understanding that pollution control is not merely
an inconvenient extra, but a fundamental part of successful business
management. A key point is not only what you clean up, but how you
do it - and with the "Heg" products GDM are using truly effective
materials which are themselves safe and environmentally benign."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
1) Established 15 years ago, GDM Engineering is a leading precision
engineering company producing large runs of high quality turned parts
and fixings, including connectors and non-return valves for the motor
and brewing industries. It operates automatic lathes and a variety
of milling machines. For further information about GDM, contact Geoff
Hummersone at GDM Engineering Ltd.
2) The "Heg" range of products consists of: Hegol
(oil degrading bacteria added to a biodegradable quick-splitting surfactant,
used for the removal of oil from concrete and from metallic and other
hard surfaces, for vehicle/aircraft washing, for kitchen and lavatory
drains and odour control, and for general commercial cleaning); Hegsolv
(oil degrading bacteria added to a biodegradable and non-corrosive
water-based solvent with rust inhibitor, used for degreasing, heavy-duty
cleansing, as a parts washing liquid and to prepare surfaces for painting);
Hegrem (oil- trapping absorbent made from biodegradable plant fibres
with oil degrading bacteria, used loose for bioremediation of contaminated
land or in sock form to float in interceptors and remove and destroy
hydrocarbons); Hegfloor (similar to Hegrem and therefore non-abrasive,
but fewer bacteria and almost dust free - used loose as a premium
absorbent for oil and fuel spilled on hard surfaces); and Hegsorb
(biodegradable specially treated plant fibres which absorb and trap
oil spilled in water - also used in pillow or boom form to remove
oil from interceptors and to protect drainage points).
