PREMIUM
ABSORBENT FOR OIL SPILLS ON FACTORY FLOORS
|
Hegfloor is a uniquely beneficial absorbent of oil and
other liquid organic chemicals. It is made from recycled waste plant
fibres treated to absorb oil in preference to water at up to 6 times
its own weight. Absorbed oil is trapped and cannot leach out. Hegfloor
is non-abrasive, and will not damage sealed floors or finely engineered
parts. It eliminates workshop fumes from spilled liquids, prevents
tracking of oil, reduces fire risk and ensures a safe anti-slip surface.
Unlike polypropylene or granular clays, its production requires minimal
resource and energy inputs and has no environmental impact.

|
BENEFITS
|
|
IN THE UK IN 1995, THERE WERE 35,000 INDUSTRIAL
LOST-TIME ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY SLIPS OR FALLS ON UNSAFE FLOORS,
COSTING £300 MILLION IN LOST PRODUCTION AND EXTRA COSTS.
|
- Full encapsulating absorption (not surface adsorption)
of oil, organic chemicals and vegetable oil
|
- Oil is trapped in the oleophilic fibres and can not leach
out or give off fumes
|
- Enhances safety and heath at work: dust free, non-slip surfaces,
cuts fumes, no silicate dust
|
- Unlike granular clays, does not form an unsafe gritty mass
on the floor, damaging sealed surfaces
|
- Made from recycled plant waste, not from a persistent petrochemical
such as polypropylene
|
- In spills in road accidents, removes risk of extended contamination
|
- Easy to apply; reusable in Ecocycle
System until saturated; disposable by composting or incineration
|
- Up to 7 times more absorbent than granular clay; one bag
Hegfloor replaces up to 8-10 bags clay
|
- Production causes no environmental impact and needs minimal
energy and resource input
|
- Supported by US Department of Agriculture; Meets criteria
in guidelines in US Presidential Order 13101 concerning preference
to given by US Federal Agencies inpurchasing products which
impose fewer burdens on the environment.

COMPARISON WITH GRANULAR CLAY
Hegfloor is up to 7 times more absorbent than granular clay, as
follows for different types of oil (weight for weight basis):
| GASOLINE |
x 5.7 |
| MINERAL OIL |
x 5.3 |
| DIESEL OIL |
x 3.4 |
| 30 WT MOTOR OIL |
x 4.0 |
| LIGHT CRUDE |
x 4.5 |
| VEGETABLE OIL |
x 4.5 |
| MOTOR OIL SLUDGE |
x 7.1 |
| 90 WT GEAR OIL |
x 6.7 |
To absorb 10 litres 90 WT gear oil, you would need only 2.4 kg Hegfloor
but 16 kg of granular clay. At typical prices, the cost of Hegfloor
would be £2-32, compared to £5-50 for the granular clay - a saving
of c. 58%. Moreover, the saturated Hegfloor would present only 12.4
kg for disposal, compared with 25.8 kg of saturated granular clay.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Scatter Hegfloor directly over the spilled liquid. Leave to absorb
- it will do so very quickly. Brush briskly to and fro across the
affected area to ensure complete absorption and to leave a clean anti-slip
surface. If the liquid is spreading fast, heap Hegfloor in its path
to contain it or to form an absorbent dam around drainage points.
Respond immediately to spills - have standby supplies to hand at key
points, preferably in Ecocycle System mobile storage, dispensing & recycling
units. Used Hegfloor may be brushed aside and used again until saturated.
As a matter of good workshop practice, Hegfloor should not be left over
a spill site for extended periods. Saturated Hegfloor should be swept
up and may be disposed of either as contaminated waste, or by incineration
if permitted (Hegfloor yields 15,000 BTU per kilo with only 3% ash)
or by composting on site with Hegrem (e.g.
in The Ecocycle System+Composter) as if it
were contaminated soil.
