II DESCRIPTION AND COMPOSITION OF INGREDIENTS
Generic description: A non-hazardous absorbent for spilled acids.
Composition: Tan/grey absorbent cellulosic fibres, treated according
to a proprietary formula..
III HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
This product is not considered dangerous for supply or use within
the meaning of Regulation 5 of The Chemical Hazards (Information and
Packaging) Regulations 1993 ("CHIP"). The information in this PSDS
is supplied in accordance with Schedule 6 of CHIP to meet the requirements
of Section 6(4) of The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
IV FIRST AID MEASURES
EYE CONTACT: Can cause redness or irritation. Flush with water, having
first washed hands.
SKIN CONTACT: Possible irritation if skin is sensitive. Wash with
soap and water. If irritation persists, see a doctor.
INGESTION: May cause nausea or diarrhoea. Drink large amounts of water.
Do not induce vomiting. If chronic, see a doctor
INHALATION: May trigger allergies to farm fibres or worsen respiratory
illness. Move to fresh air if breathing hampered.
V FIRE AND EXPLOSION DATA and FIRE FIGHTING METHODS:
FLAMMABLE. As with any finely divided material, there is a dust
explosion fire hazard. When handling in bulk in confined space, ensure
that work area is well ventilated and dust extractor fans are operating.
Flammable limit: 260°C
Fire-fighting procedures: Treat as paper fire. Wear respiratory mask
to avoid inhalation of disturbed materials.
VI ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES:
If spilled in significant quantity, it can be swept up and recovered
for use - unless on being spilled it has been contaminated. Smaller
quantities may be brushed from the floor and disposed of as non-hazardous
waste or left to biodegrade.
VII STORAGE AND HANDLING:
Observe normal high standards of workplace hygiene when handling the
product.
STORAGE: Store in cool dry conditions, out of direct sunlight and
preferably ventilated. HANDLING: Use common sense and care. Do not
mix with other substances unless expressly permitted in user instructions.
If handling in bulk, wear eye goggles and respiratory mask. If user's
skin is sensitive, wear gloves and wash hands after use.

XI TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION:
Hegacid contains no toxic or dangerous substances
XII ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Hegacid is made from recycled cellulosic fibres of natural origin.
It is biodegradable and environmentally benign if left to compost.
XIII DISPOSAL:
Hegacid itself is made from naturally-occurring materials and may
be safely disposed of by composting. (See also the advice in Section
VI). Hegacid which has been used to absorb acids will contain quantities
of such substances and should therefore be disposed of in accordance
with the relevant regulations and consents applicable to the site
and to the acids in question. Used Hegacid may also be burnt as fuel,
subject to local conditions and consents.
XIV TRANSPORTATION:
No special precautions other than those concerning storage set out
in Section VII.
XV REGULATORY INFORMATION:
None of the components of Hegacid is notifiable under the Notification
of New Substances Regulations 1993. The product must be used in accordance
with all relevant laws, regulations and local consents governing its
use and the disposal of the absorbed acids at the site in question,
and in accordance with guidelines prepared by the user under The Health
and Safety at Work Act. The information contained in this PSDS does
not constitute the user's own assessment of workplace risks required
by law. Any use which is not in accordance with this Data Sheet or
other guidance on use is the sole responsibility of the user. Whilst
